Kenai Health Center
This 11,829 sf. health care center houses State Health offices and a Kenai presence for Central Peninsula Hospital. K+A successfully completed this assignment with a limited budget, short schedule, and on a constricted site in the center of Kenai. The building is owned and maintained by the Kenai Peninsula Borough and design committee participants included doctors, nurses, hospital board members, and Borough representatives. K+A built consensus within this large committee structure resulting in Kenai’s premier health care facility. Programming included special attention to flexibility for future needs/health care delivery trends, tele-med, tele-care, and traveling doctors. The State Health space provided for community health conferences, health education programs, and facilitates children immunization clinics. Central Peninsula Hospital’s space includes mammography, sonogram, X-Ray and lab services with space for visiting specialists. K+A considered the high public traffic on adjacent properties and chose to carefully integrate the Health Center into the site, keeping large native trees to buffer the center from the neighboring commercial buildings. The design provides a sense of privacy for the patient’s security and comfort. Exterior materials were selected for durability and low maintenance.
